Gorillaz – The mountain (2026)

L’album è stato presentato nel Settembre 2025 durante il concerto di “Gorillaz’s 25th anniversary “House of Kong”. Si tratta di un disco con tantissime collaborazioni con musicisti provenienti da vari generi musicali: Anoushka Shankar, Asha Puthli, Sparks, Kara Jackson, Idles, Black Thought, Johnny Marr, Trueno, Omar Souleyman, Yasiin Bey, e molti altri.
L’immagine di Damon Albarn che nella mezzanotte di Varanasi, l’antica città indiana al centro delle tradizioni di pellegrinaggio, morte e lutto del mondo induista, giunge sulle rive del Gange per spargere le ceneri del defunto padre è l’istantanea che fissa questo nuovo lavoro dei Gorillaz. “Quello che capisci – spiega Hewlett, che proprio durante un viaggio in quel paese ha recentemente perso anche la suocera – è che non c’è posto migliore dell’India per fare i conti con la morte. In Occidente, la morte è definitiva. In India, invece, la tristezza nasce dal sapere che non vedrai più quel familiare in questa forma, ma celebriamo l’idea che ricomincerà”.
